Anyone who has ever had a Rosary knows that they can break apart if pulled on too tightly. Nothing is worse than having
your favorite Rosary in pieces before you. There are a few things that you can do to extend the life of your Rosary and ensure
that it is available for your prayers for years to come.
When you receive your Rosary, it will arrive to you in a plastic zipper-type bag. If you keep your Rosary in a plastic
bag when it is not in use, the shine of the metal will last longer.
Exposed to Air over long periods of time, both the Silver Oxidized and Gold Toned metals will become discolored. Some
people like the look of the discolored metal, as it gives the Rosary an aged look and can start to "feel" like a
family heirloom. If you prefer the shiny metal, keeping your Rosary stored in plastic is the best thing you can do to prolong
the finish of the metal.
The Rosary pouch you will receive will help, but it is not as protective as the plastic will be.
As you pray with your Rosary, try not to pull too hard on the beads as you go through the decades. The wire has to be
somewhat pliable in order for the loops to be bent and the beads joined together. Hard tugging will straighten out the loops
and cause your Rosary to break apart.
If you are at all handy with tools, you can make most minor repairs to your Rosary yourself with a pair of needle-nose
pliers. If you are not comfortable working on your Rosary, I will repair it for you at no cost. See the Rosary Repairs page
for more information.
In the event that your Rosary does break for any reason, do your best to locate all of the parts including center, crucifix
and beads. Missing beads can be difficult to match for replacement.
